Happy Thanksgiving!

This week has been amazing! we have ben able to get SO much work done and its all because we were willing to work with the ward, to serve them and love them. this was has been overtaxed for way too long by missionaries so it was high time they got a bit of love back. I have good news as well! ok so you know how calls home have been just that calls home? well don't you think that's a little boring? I mean come on what year are we in? wouldn't it be nice if we could find a way that we could talk to our families on Christmas that is just a little more exciting then a plain ole boring phone call? wouldn't it also be nice to have some sort of digital device oh we'll call it an ipad mini, that we could make such an interesting contact with? and wouldn't it be swell if we had mission President Approval to use said devices for contacting our families on those days? and what if on top of hearing each others voices we could also see each other as well? ok enough of this Tom foolery... we have been authorized to Skype/face time home for Christmas/Mothers day. The same rules apply it is to be 30-40 minutes. and by that, it is TO BE 30-40 minutes long, if a missionary decides to go over well he is also deciding to loose his/her privilege to Skype/face time for the rest of their mothers days/ Christmases.(not that it really would effect me... I still will be exactly obedient!) So there you have it folks good news from Glendale!

This week we had Carlos's Baptism and it was by far the best one I have ever been to, the spirit was so strong and we had an amazing turn out and the stake presidency came and did a musical number. Carlos got up after and bore one of the most sincere and heartfelt testimonies that I have ever heard. Carlos is such an amazing person, he is such a blessing to this ward and he is a leader! he is already talking his other friends to the missionaries in their areas. He wants to come out on splits with us and he is preparing to serve a mission as soon as he graduates High school. He is one of the greatest examples to me of what hard work and a testimony can do for someone.
Well here it is Thanksgiving!
I cannot express to you fully how grateful I am for the love that I feel from all of you. I feel your prayers. I am blown away at how Christlike every one of you is as you have always been there for me and helped me. I know that this Church is true! I know my Savior lives! He Loves us! And because of that we are here to preach this Gospel to all the ends of the Earth to give our brothers and our sisters the chance to feel the love from Father as we feel it. I love you all1 and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

From the "man-ran" (Manistee Ranch)

Well to all my fans and fellows and friends oh and family too!
this week has been crazy busy with this and that and everything in between. i don't even have time to think here its insane!

i can't believe what is going on here in Manistee Ranch, the people are prepared and the work is mind blowing! transfers are coming up next week so who knows what will happen but all i know is that i love this work so much!

our biggest trial is getting people to church bleh its a hassle, we have 22 pages of people in our ward and yet the entire ward is run by 5 families... i'm not joking i've never seen something like this before, in one family will be counciler in bishopbrick relief socity pres EQ pres and scout master and then another is bishop YW pres, and so its a few well-off families doing their best to help everyone else in the ward, so we have been meeting with the bishop and eq pres to determine what we can do to help

its funny every area that i have been sent one of the reasons that i am sent there is to fix ward/missionary relationships. Don't get me wrong i love it but i find it interesting. well this weekend we might have 2 or 3 baptismal interviews and then 2 more the next week so please your prayers and felt and needed! thank you all i love you!

From Glendale with Pictures!

Family! I love you so much! thank you for all your love and support! this week has been beautiful the weather has been in the 60s at night and low 80 in the day. My companion and i are doing well, we help each other everyday to come unto Christ and to become better.

This past Saturday, We were able to participate in the baptisms of Ernest and Richard. Elder Shin was asked to baptize Richard and I was asked to baptize Ernest. it was wonderful they are fantastic. we love them so much. We had Interviews with Presidant Taylor this week, and boy was that good! i sure loved that we learned a ton, i think you saw the pictures that Sister T posted, she is awfully good at doing that haha.

.

I'm glad to hear about your trip! that sound so fun! what an experience is that! one day i'll be able to go with you all to that! thank yo for the pictures, you know what they say pictures say 1000 words and that is so true i love getting pictures they are my favorite! but i seem to be missing some from CHINA and from MEXICO! i wanna see those! haha any whom i love you all so much keep up all the good work

Momsy thank you for the package! that was much needed thank you thank you thank you! it was very hard to get through the crazyness of this area but now we are ok so thank you! and all 4 of us enjoyed the random disembodied extremities :D
LOVE YOU!

Story time with Elder Pehrson

ok so you know how i served in Surprise?

ok well there was this family - the Bowrings who i had dinner with, this sweet old couple who were great saints, we left a blessing on their home and they asked us to bless his grandson who joined the church recently but who had gone less active and for his wife that they would be able to receive the gospel and have a happy eternal family.

i remember saying that prayer quite vividly

so Elder Shin and i got a referral for a certain Brother Bowring living in the apartments who want to come back to church and i thought to myself hmm that sure is a familiar name so we went over there and started teaching them

...and sure enough it is the family who i specifically prayed for almost a year ago that they would be ready and prepared to have the gospel enter into their life and then i just so happen to be the missionary who ends up teaching them and now Sister Bowring is getting baptized at the end of this month!

GOD LOVES HIS CHILDREN AND HE DOES ANSWER PRAYERS!

Catching up...

Note from Z: Somehow, I got behind...so here's a really long post in which I'm endeavoring to catch up on posting Elder Pehrson's emails...

September 24th

So a couple of months ago i spoke to the ward council about having a talent show that also had displays like a road show and so this last week they did it and it was a huge success! they all loved it and it was so much fun so here are a few pictures for you. These are sister Hardy's charcoal pictures, and they are beyond amazing she is so skilled and she has never taken any classes she just picked them up and started to draw and these are what she has done

some more art stuffs

.

me and some funny kids who were following us arround and telling us about all the talents.

.

and here is a crowd shot there were a ton of people there so it was fun

.

this was an AMAZING cowboy swing dance act, and it wasn't just an "oh that cool" it was "oh my goodness did she just do a flippy-do twirly ma-thingy arround his neck while he was doing a jump-in-to-the-air-and-do-the-splits WOW!" sop apparently they met in a dance troop thing so it was super neat.

.

oh and here are the lundbergs who are in our ward, she makes jewelery stuff out of glass that she forges at her house in an oven thing (which i may or may not have some to send home...)

.

September 25th

Hello! to all my fan base and loved ones and others who have shown some sort of interest.
i am telling you of transfer news, i've been transferred to the Glendale central district, interestingly enough it is also the district in which the new digital devices are being tested, so yes i will be testing the new iPad and iPhone so that will be interesting. My companion is Elder Shin he is from Virginia (but he does not have an accent (thank goodness)) and he is in fact KOREAN! that's right my companion is an Asian! well i will tell you the rest on Monday, until then I LOVE YOUI!

September 30th - From Manistee Ranch

Dear Family.
I have a firm testimony that God does answer prayers.

ok before i start i'm going to give you a brief over view of the last 5 days.

In the last 5 days...
i have laughed more then i have my entire life.
I have had more fun than i have my entire mission.
i have been able to use what i know to help people.
i have taught 18 lessons.
i have met the most prepared people that i have ever seen.
i have literly had people come up to us asking to join the church
i have had the scariest run in with a drunk lady (that was fun haha)
I've had members calling us to teach their friends.
I have felt thta i have been living my calling.
I have seen how experiance that i have had has been needed for this.
AND i have had an asian companion! (from virgina... but still!)
I have experienced the best five days of my whole mission so far.

ok phew wow that was exciting! Ok so starting at the top. We live in apartments (for the first time on my mission!), Elder Shin and i live with another companionship Elders Mcfarland and Crane, and ok putting us all together was the best thing that has happened since God invented the moon!

Elder Mcfarland has been out for 3 transfers (4 and a half months) and the best way to describe him is that he IS a muscle, he is one of the funniest people that i have ever met he is from Georgia.

Elder Crane has been out for 2 transfers (3 months) and he is from west jordan utah, he is the embodiment of quiet dignity he doesn't say much but what he does say is usually witty beyond belief.

Elder Shin is from Virginia he has been out for 4 transfers (6 months) and he is in fact the son of a doctor and a nurse who are asian! his parents are from Korea, and if you have ever had a desire to laugh until your guts erupt and then start laughing at that, spend about 30 second with one of the best missionaries in the world, my companion Elder Shin!

so those of you who like to do maths in your head i'm sorry but more then that you might have seen that an interesting fact of our apartment is that i have been out longer then the other three put together... weird...

ok so now on to the important stuffs, manistee ranch (yeah like manitee but with a stee) is incredible, the majority of the ward consists of converts and the spirit of missionary work is living and burning here, thats all everyone talks about! its amazing! testimony meeting was missionary experience after missionary experience oh boy i tell you what i sure loved it!

so our days consist of us going from teaching appointment to teaching appointment, we literally have to find time and make time to do finding activities because our schedule is so packed. ok so i don't know if i have told you this yet but i love Elder Shin so much i love being his companion, i love teaching with him! We would be walking up to an investigator and there would be this persons fiend there and Elder shin started talking to the investigator and i started talking to his friend and it was like peter and john or alma and almulek, Elder shin was setting up an appointment with the investigator and i was teaching the other person that what we do is help people develop faith in Jesus Christ and to better their life through Faith in the savior and living Gods commandments, and she replied well if anyone needs that i do, can i sit in in your lessons? and so we got her information and set up a lesson with her and our other investigator BAM WOOT! the church is true!

and then we had a member call us and said so do you have a dinner on sat? we said well i think we do now. ans she said good because my sister will be here and she wants to join the church and she lives in our ward! i was all sorts of geeking out at this point. oh yeah!

and then this lady called us up and asked us to come teach her (they are calling us!) so we went over and it was in this super sketchy hotel (we had a member with us thank goodness) and it didn't turn out well at all she was beyond drunk telling us all about her abusive husband and then in the middle of talking to her the police show up (ok this officer was over this rougher area he didn't just have one gun he had two! it was neat) and then he tells her to never go back to her house or she will be arrested, so at this point Elder shin was leading out but he just went blank and had no idea what to do so after the officer left i got up and took control of the situation which was getting quite out of hand and i just told her what we were going to do (leave right now but call her tomorrow when she was sober)

...and then we got back to the church and you'll never guess what happened! haha So Elder Shin had forgotten the phone in her room, so we went back and tried knocking but she was passed out and we could see the phone sitting on the tv so we went and spoke to the front desk, they told us there was nothing they could do. but we the other elders got a call the next morning saying that the phone was at the front office and so we went and got it, she had apparently got up and called the police back who called in an ambulance so she is in a mental hospital right now but we got the phone back.

ok so speaking of the phone, this tech is nice, its super glitchy right now and they are updating it all the time, but we are literally the pioneers of this program anytime we have an idea we send it into the church office building and if they like it they make it happen so we're not given any "rules" really just the principals of obedience and that exactly what this program will take is the highest obedience because it would be so easy to go south with these things however already we have used them in teaching situations and they have brought the spirit like oi have never felt before.

The planner/area book will be amazing when it is all figured out, its making all the tools right there in our hand at the click of a button and as Elder Shin always says "ancient chineese proverb says no hot spot no hope!"

our phone acts as a hotspot for us with our ipads so that when we are at the apartment we can connect to the internet and to each others' devices so that we can plan together. one thing i love about this is that updating your area book which used to be such a chore and really annoying now its all right there and after a lesson happens in the day it will automagicaly pop up with a thing to report the lesson and right then you punch all the data into the records and bam! your area book is updated!

so i'm still learning how to use it and i will be getting a lot better with it but already i can do things on the ipad that i never thought you could do, i'm using it by going back and forth between apps and it blows my mind at how efficient it makes everything. weekly planning was sweet this week, not only did we have a ton of things to plan for but we literally have every hour of everyday planned for for the entire week, we are no longer planning one day in advance in our daily planning we are planning two days in advance to make sure everything is ready to go

ok so next week i'll have more details on what to tell you and how everything works but for now i'm so excited that i'm able to be a part of this testing program, there are only about 60 missionaries in the world so far who are doing this. I love you all keep up the good work!

October 7th

This is elder shin right after I told him that I too an an Asian ! Oh and yes he is laying o n a rug that we made hat is made from ugly ties that we found in a drawer in the kitchen

This week has been crazy with ups and downs. so by about Tuesday the juice that was left here and the momentum built by Elder Silcock (whom i replaced) ran dry and elder shin and i were like a pair of speed skaters who all of a sudden on a turn hit a patch of no ice and we slippe and fell hard.

we both had this moment of "boot to the head" wow this is going to be a lot of hard work we can no longer afford to goof of or even plan one day in advance we have to be using all the time that we have to be planning out two three four days in advance or this work wont be able to happen, we are having 5 lessons a day and we have to coordinate the rides, the members who we are going to after who we will be with before, what are our back ups? on and on and on.

so after a break down we hit the reset button and we have put ourselves into gear and its been hard but every second of the day we are busy we are doing something. if we finish something then we can't just relax we have to jump on a list of 20 other things we need to do.

all in all i've actually loved it, its been against my natural tendency to be lazy but I've loved giving my all and seeing the reward. this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. this next upcoming week should be a good one and i'll keep you posted with any new news.

OK so i thought that you would enjoy this, this is a rug that we made out of duct tape and old ugly ties that were left behind. It now adorns the center of our room. oh the things you can do with one mans junk. Love you!

irony means to laugh

oh my family you went to the family camp out! thats so much fun! but it doesn't look like you went to tonys grove, did that happen this year? do you have any more pictures? i do so love the ones you sent though they made me quite happy.

so some news, last week after emailing i got a call from president Taylor and he said that they are realigning the districts and they are dissolving our district and putting us into another district so they no longer need me to be serving as district leader. it was bitter sweet, i do love elders Handy and Moore so much and i wont be able to see them at all and that is sad but i was grateful for the opportunity that i had to serve in the capacity of district leader, i learned a lot and i was able to gain some valuable insight and direction.

another on the downer side is now we have to ride 6 and a half miles to district meeting in 112 weather and the other elders in the district a live together and aren't to keen on having more in their district but it'll all work out in the end i'm sure.

so we had a great lesson with the munoz family and sister reid came and bore such a powerful testimony and it was great and we were on such a high until they didn't come to church... thats ok i received revelation that one of the reasons that i am here is to help the ward and to get the gears grinding so that future missionaries can get er done with all the things going on so we've been working a lot with bishop and he is starting to like us a lot so thats good its a huge change to when i got here when he wouldn't talk to the missionaries at all.

well not much more to report aside from that we went bowling last week and i won woot! and we played settlers of catan this morning and we both won one so any whom stay cool my friends and START POSTING GOSPEL SUBJECTS ON FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!

ok so this first one is eh well i don't know actually... i started making some food and then i found an apron because it was splashing on my tie and then i saw a towel and i thought well i might as well complete the look right?

ok and this one is of the sunset and i'll tell you what i'm thoroughly convinced that the sunset is the ONLY thing in arizona that isn't trying to kill you and because of that it is extraordinarily good looking, some might go as far as saying beautiful/

more clouds...

oh and yep more clouds...
it seems as though the only thing worth taking pictures of is clouds

ok this is another picture on my hike in the morning with bro Dawson

and then yup same picture but this time with more clouds in it

missionaries doing their thang!

An online mission

OK familia!

so yes we have learned that by the end of this month our mission will be one of the first to compleatly 'go online' this is amazing and terrifying! we will be able to reach out to places all over the world and we will be able to help those who don't have missionaries!

and now think of this the june 23rdmeeting. ok now think that elder Perry has said that the reason why that meeting was so historic was because of it fulfilling the prophetic words spoken in matt 24;14. yeah... crazy... i know...

so here is some cool news a missionary is teaching someone on the other side of the world right now in our mission and you would think hmm wait what about a language barrier? nope! all the services we have, have translation capability!

AND!

we will be able to use skype and facetime! so if i am teaching someone in France and i need a member, guess who can jump on and join me? my very own sister Christina! or i am teacing someone in australia and i am testifying of families and my mother hops on and shares her testimony of families being forever.

the capabilities of this program are MASSIVE and it will be amazing to the use of sharing this gospel to all the world! oh feel the power kronk! oh... i can feel it! i'm so stoked for this!

ok so this week we hadtrainer/trainee follow up meeting and that was so super good ( i can't believe that its beeen 5 weeks already and now we are in the 6th!) and then we had zone meeting where we spoke about this. other then that this week has been normal its hot but not too bad but we are doing well we aren't teaching anyone right now so we have a lot of time to fill each day so thats not fun but we are being obediant and happy

Why watch grass grow when you can stare at the sun?

Ok so this week has been crazy fun! it started with our district getting together on p-day to play so some risk WHICH WAS SO MUCH FUN! i won haha!

and then on tue we had weekly planning (weird i know its usualy on thursday)

and then wed we went on exchanges and Elder Jones took over the area for the first time and he did great! he knows what he need to work on and he is willing to get to a point where it'll be comfortable to take the lead.

then on thursday we had interviews with pres Taylor which ends up being an almost all day thing and that was such an amazing experience the spirit was so strong and we were able to learn so much and my interview with Pres Taylor was the Beest he is such an inspired man and

AND!

get this after the meeting he said something to me in spanish and i knew he was asking me to take something to his car

so i said si

and he asked me what he said

and i said Uhhh i dunno

and elder jones said 'my acorn is missing, did you take my acorn'

and you know what pres Taylor said?!?! "squeek squeekin squeek squeekin'

and we all busted up laughing so hard it was great and then we found that that is his favorite movie and his favorite line is 'umm i just got turned into a cow... can i go home now?' oh man priceless!

and then district meeting on friday was great! it was super fun

and then sat was a normal day

Sunday We had a lesson with one of our families and it was Elder Jones' very first official lesson that he has given but he did super well it was great!

and then that brings us back to the now and if i were to continue i would be talking about the future and that would just be plain silly! well i love you all so much! keep it real and don't get too hot in this season!
Love Elder Pehrson

ps Elder Jones was in the middle of sneezing when we took this and for some reason we didn't take another one... this was our hike this morning with bro dawson

Catfish are not as good looking as I am

Well ok then! so this week has been a good week!

the only complaint is that even though now that its not as hot because of the humidity, it HUMID! which is gross and yucky and i smell really bad all day long! Thats ok though it comes with the call i guess.

Elder Jones and i are doing quite well, we get along great and we are both learning a TON! and that too is a good thing we finally were able to have a lesson with our investigator marge so that was Elder Jones first Lesson with in the mission field and it went well marge is being marge she loves us and loves us coming over but she is catholic and always will be even if she hasn't been to a catholic church in the last 40 years and she disagrees with a lot of their stuff that is who is is and she can't change blah but thats ok we are helping her and she needs the gospel so bad in her life.

So because we haven't had people to teach we have been doing the lessons with members as our thought after we eat with them and thats been fun. we are still on lesson one the restoration but today is the day we are starting lesson 2 the plan of salvation so i'm super excited to be working with elder Jones on these we have been doing practice teaching in our comp studies every day and that has helped so much for both of us.
It blows me out of the water at how prepared Elder Jones is he is going to be such a great missionary and he will pass me by in no time, i respect him so much for how hard he works on everything. Best of all though is he understands almost every single one of my movie quotes! and he too is an Avatar fan! WOOT! but he likes to hold over my head all the movies i haven't seen yet haha its ok he will learn quickly that it is very nice to be away from the world and not be tied down by whats going on at this instant everywhere at once.

Elder Jones has this amazing spiritual gift of being able to understand the needs of the people he is teaching we will be doing practice teaching and i will be trying to stump him with a deeper problem that i have and without fail he knows exactly what my problem is haha all he needs now is practice on how to handle situations but he is learning very fast.

so here is a picture of us being cool this was right after or perhaps during weekly planning i can't quite remember.

right now what i am struggling with is i feel like we are spinning our wheels we are trying to work and get things done but at the end of the day we find ourselves saying well we rode arround a lot but NO ONE WAS HOME and we didn't actually get ANYTHING done.
This is a trial i understand but it gets hard when its 4pm and all you have is this huge list of people to go see and you know that it would take a miracle for anyone to answer the door or to even be home.

the problem we are facing is our ward at it low point is at 80% activity and so that 20% are people who have had a lot of people try to contact them in the last 15 years and they don't want to talk to us. But i do know that if we keep working and are obedient then the Lord will bless us thats how he works and right now is a time for personal growth and for planting seeds. even though i have that knowledge it still gets rough in the middle of the day and nothing has happened and it looks like nothing will.

Any whom on a better light I LOVE THIS WARD! they are great and are doing their best to be unified in the work of salvation and they are catching the wave! the problem we see is the main bulk of our ward are married med students so who do they know? other students. but what other group of people would get married before med school? no one but mormons
so we have had a TON of referrals from them but if they are single they go straight to the singles ward which is great this is all Gods work but at times its hard.

so my 2nd or 3rd week here we met with the bishop and we went over a ton of stuff with him and at that time we asked him (like is says in PMG) are we a blessing or a burden because we feel we are a burden and he said that he would agree BUT! Elder Jones and i had dinner with him on sat and then we met with him again yesterday and he told us flat out that he feels we are a blessing to him and his ward, he fully trusts us and he really likes us a lot he said that if he had someone he was working on that he was saving for the right companionship he would give them to us but he doesn't have anyone...
but thats ok! its still the spirit of unity that is there and now that we have that from the bishop it has spread like wildfire to the rest of the ward and we can see it like night and day its been so neat to see the change that has taken place in this ward I LOVE IT!

so district meeting was super good this week we had the hardys come and speak to us about how us inviting people to make changes, to repent and to come unto Christ has helped them (she is the most recent convert in the area she was baptised about a year and a half ago and the people before her were at the beginning of 2011 and they had moved out (i have the district leader binder so i can see all of this info)) and it went super well, i don't know what it is but i actualy realy love holding district meeting and its very fun to plan and prepare it all.

the best part of being district leader has been being able to serve the Elders in my district, i do nightly call ins and just to talk to them about their day and to uplift them and to give them motivation and try and give them energy to push through!

i love serving others!

any whom i have to go now but i love you all so so so much! thank you for all the help you've given me, it means so much to me!
love
Elder Pehrson
PS i loved loved loved the letter i got from mums class! that was super neat! (i'm still trying to give away the frogs from last time haha!)

Story of my life this week

Well things here have been fun! this week i was on two exchanges, one with an elder in my district and the other with the zone leaders both of which were super fun and i learned so much from them, i am so blessed to have an amazing district where we all get along and we all like each other its been so much fun being with this district!

Yay new camera!

My first district meeting last friday went super well it was actually very fun and i loved it a ton its not scary at all and the Spirit is there so strong and the meeting flowed perfectly and we were able to talk about all the stuff that we needed to go over sadly at the end we ran out of time so we couldn't do our re-practice but other than that it went without a hitch!

I got a package from home this week and there was a note from mums primary class and they wrote some inspiring notes to me and i almost started crying! i could just feel the love of those kids and to feel of their own testimony of the savior it was grand!

Watch tan :)
so this morning we as a zone met at Thunderbird park by the Phoenix temple and we hiked the hill there and we had a testimony meeting on top over looking the temple and we could see all of our areas that the 29 of us are serving in (i could also see the 83rd and deervalley building which was my first area and we could see all the way out to surprise. the spirit was so strong to be up there overlooking our places of stewardship and to see the temple in the midst of it all, it was a very stirring experience.

Wielding the spatula of POWER!
i don't know if i have anything else to report but i love you all so much and thank you for your love and prayers i do feel of them and i sure do need them!
Love Elder Pehrson

A picture text from John

A couple good missionaries. We are happy to have them in our home.
Elder Jones has hit the ground running and Elder Pehrson is a good
example of hard working.

Warm regards,

Elder Roo gets a Trainee!

Ok so most of you know already but my new companion is Elder Danial Jones and he is from the... wait for it... ok i'll just make you guess. :D

so this past week has been super fun not much has happened as far as investigators go but we're working with a bunch of members and they have given us a bunch of referrals which none have showed any actual interest but thats ok seeds have been planted and we are learning which is a good thing,

ok so i love my companion he is awesome and he is super funny he has almost the same humor as i do (ah yes, twice the forehead slapping!) he graduated high school oh about a month ago. three weeks from today he was on a date (weird...) and he wants to go into astrophysics... heehee

Finally someone who can have a truly interesting and intelligible conversation with! haha nah but he is super smart and super prepared for his mission: he knows the sticks, he knows PMG, he is willing and ready to learn how to apply all that he knows, so thats a great quality about him. his greatest spiritual gift that i've seen so far that will help him tons on his mission is one of the most impressive memories that i've ever witnessed he does not cannot will not forget anything!

so we are struggling most right now with finding time to do everything that we need to do! we even get an extra hour of comp study but with all the doctrine and teaching skills we have to go over its NOT ENOUGH! but thats ok we live and learn.

so this last friday was the first friday of the month so it was zone meeting so i haven't actually had a district meeting yet but i planned and made assignments this morning for our meeting this friday and its super nice because every month we get a mission action plan with a list of things that pres Taylor wants for us to go over and so it tells us right there exactly what to do for each discrict meeting and we are given the tools to do it all the district leaders have to do is to put it all together and run the meeting so i'm not too overly worried so we will see how it goes and my opinion after this friday haha.

ok so i'm thinking you've forgotten about me not telling you about where Elder Jones is by now right? no? ok well i guess i'll tell you. right. so he is from the Glorious Sandy Utah! but his family recently moved to South Jordan Utah so my companions keep getting closer and closer to home what next - Kyle is going to be my companion :D that would be super fun.

This coming week we are going to be making a focus on the 8 fundamentals of PMG with a focus on using the gospel of Jesus Christ in all of our teachings so i'm excited to be working with my new companion and the Fun adventures that await is in the coming week and months, lets just say that we will be slaying dragons daily! (my personal goal i made in my planner for recognizing miracles that happen each day and i set a daily goal of how many dragons we will slay or how many miracles we will recognize that day).

so at our 4th of july breakfast we had about 150 people there which sound like a lot but not really but thats ok we still had a number of non members there and also a less active sister who has 4 baptism age kids at home and she hasn't had any contact with the church for many years and she has asked us to come and to share a message in her home (sweet!) and she would like us over for dinner sometime (double sweet!).

ok well folks thats about all from my end oh and i bet mum was in heaven with Glenn beck we have a member of our ward who went up to visit family and to go to that she was originally going to stop by and drop off birthday presents and fathers day stuff but with the crazy busy p-day last week i wasn't able to go to the right store to get what i'm getting for you guys so sorry about that... any whom i love you all! keep up the fight!

NEWS of Great Amazingness!

So official report from mission home to us was that sat it was a record setting 121 degrees (must be said like Edna mode would say it) that was a... hot day to say the least but fear not! i drink a ton of water so i will not stay cool but i will stay hydrated but boy do i have stories to tell you about this heat, it doesn't matter how much you drink you sweat so much that if you don't get water at EVERY house you visit you will get dangerously dehydrated and it blows me away at how much the sun drains you of energy but thats ok we do this while we're young for a reason haha,

bloody nose from the heat/ so much for drinking water.
so not much to report other than we've been getting a ton of referrals from our ward members which has been so exciting! we had a fast on thursday and i want to testify to you of the amazing power of fasting with purpose and with prayer and having the Faith that God will provide for what is best for his children.

That day we received two referrals from members and we had a Potential investigator call us and say that they want to start meeting with us again and then one of our families we were about to give them the 'your not progressing' talk called us and said that they want us over for dinner and a lesson BLAM! it was so amazing to see how the lord works to get er done!

oh also i implore all those within the sound of my voice or rather sight of my words or whatever go to the new lds.org tab http://www.lds.org/training/wwlt/2013/hastening/a-new-vision?cid=HPL1P01W01031&lang=eng and go through all the videos and learn about how the first presidency has given to us to be able to be examples in leading out this wonderful work and in being the powerful saints that he wants us to be.

so this morning we were out on our daily jog (which today wasn't as hot because some clouds rolled in and dropped the temp by bringing in the humidity raising it from 12% to almost 46% yuck gross you all know how much i sweat normally but humidity is disgusting) and we see our next door neighbor moving in and i say hey!... lets go see if they need any help

so we went and helped them at first they were not very open but we didn't care we just started grabbing boxes and so they opened up quite a bit and we spent the next few hours helping them move in and then we went to their old house and helped them with a bunch of couches and bigger things they were super glad to have us help them there would be no way that they could have done it with out help so that was a blessing

the dad made a comment he said that he had prayed for angels to help them so that they could get it all done hehe well ask and ye shall receive right?

so we are going back for dinner woot! i'm getting quite good at having people invite us to dinner haha but the worst part was how much liqueur that they had and let me tell you it was gross and to top it all off i was helping him move a keg (yes he had an entire keg of beer of his home beer fountain) of beer and the nozzle hit a door frame and poured out the most disgusting smelling liquid all down the front of me making me almost throw up because of the smell so for about two hours i smelt of strong beer bleh.

well ok now you all are wondering about the 'news' i have ok here it is:

sat night pres Taylor called us and he has given me the assignment to be a trainer and then this morning he called again (Whilst i still having the stench of a heavy wine bibber) and gave me the assignment of being the now district leader! so we will see how that goes i'm super excited and i'm so grateful for this opportunity to have a new avenue to serve others and to be a blessing in the life of members and of other missionaries and i am deeply humbled that God would want me to serve in these capacities. i would greatly like for some helpful advice however. as usual i love you all so much and i do feel of your love and prayers! keep doing the Lords will and stay cool (hehe because i wont) love you!

Insert from Zena: I got to find out the news before everyone else via this email here:

do you want to here the CRAZY news before anyone else?

ok ok ok so sat we got a phone call from pres taylor who asked me if i would be a trainer and i said yes of course and after that my mind was blown to the extreme

and so on monday i went to a trainer orientation meeting which i have to say of all the meetings i've ever been in that was the most inspiring and get this tomorrow we will have a total of 209 missionaries in our mission and of those 170 have been out less than a year and of those 120 have been out since the new year!

pres Taylor was crying when he told us that we would be setting the culture of our mission that it would be us who set the stage for the onslaught of this miraculous wave of Gods set apart servants WOW and he called me to be a trainer!

ok so then to top it off this morning after all the stuff which i'll write about we get ANOTHER phone call where pres Taylor has assigned me to be the now district leader so i am going over d&C 121 over and over and over and i will do my best and i have so much to learn but i'm so excited for this new opportunity to serve and help not only investigators come closer to Christ i now am called to help other missionaries to better love and help those under their stewardship!

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

well This has been a good week and an uneventful one also. we have been spending our time passing out flyers for a 4th of july breakfast that we're having in the ward, i'm excited for that.

we have been making tons of visits to members and sharing short messages with them and then setting up dinners, this coming week we have a dinner every night! yaya! that'll help a ton haha

i've been thinking a lot about what i'm doing (well duh) i have found that the things that i have loved the most in my life have been teaching others, i love it so much and it makes me very happy. even with the members when we leave a message after dinner and this is something that they have heard over and over again it is still so much fun to talk about the topic that i love the most and that is the gospel oh man i love being on a mission so much!

so i'm super sorry that i don't have any exciting stories for you but this week is a calm week i guess so next week i will be emailing on tuesday due to it being transfers and that is when p-day and i have that feeling that something is going to happen i don't know what but its there haha there i go prophesying the future well keep thrusting in the work my fellows!

i love you!
Elder Pehrson

Oh, here are pictures from this morning at the Phoenix Temple!
so this is the phoenix temple! yay! we go every monday and do a hike on a hill overlooking it but we thought we'd stop by and take some pictures for you. and yes i know i am a very awkward when people take pictures of me...

I have fun ;D

Ok so just so you all know we hit our first 115 so far this year! and it was not so bad this year as it was last year but it did help that it was only a flash and it lasted for one day and all the other days have only been about 103 so that was better but i don't think i'm going to think the same when its 115 everyday for three weeks but all is well.

so exciting news we went to the mesa temple sat morning and it was so nice to go through a session i loved it so much you have no idea!

so other then that no real update aside from a bike story, so (z this is for you hehe)

There was once a upon time in the barren dessert a land called Glendale. This land was a peculiar land. A land inhabited by a people as bristly and charming as the cacti that they seem to love so much. This land was peopled by some who find joy in this life by driving ridicules vehicles over forests of small plants called collectively as grass. why do they do this one might ask? some might say the heat is getting to them others would say sheer boredom but if you were to ask one of them...

they would then begin to tell you of a form of entertainment that consists of hitting little white balls and then chasing them down in their curious vehicles to then hit them again until they disappear into a poorly placed hole.

back to mine account. in this land The Knight Sir Pehrson the Wise was called away to a land that was not his own and during his Sojourn in alien lands a brother in arms or rather another Knight was chosen to ride his steed in his stead and as his Sir Pehrson's faithful stead was Galloping his was to a victory he was sadly shot in the withers by a Fire Arrow and was down for the count. Sir Pehrson thought he could Mend His Faithful Steed but Alas it was not so.

But Fear not for the Brave knight was no without a trick or two up his chain mail for he took the steed to the very man from whom he had obtained him those many months ago and this Kind man was able to breath the breath of life back into The steed and only charged 20 doll hairs when any other would have charged 70+ so at the end of the day the Valiant knight was able to ride his steed once more into the the dessert sunset with the Hot dessert wind blowing through his impeachable helmet.

Ahh yes and Thus we see that the Zeal of a knight will conquer all the fiery darts of the adversary.

Well i hope you enjoyed this tune in next week to find out how you too can become as handsome as Sir Pehrson!
Love YA! ;)

Grandma Eccols

ok just so everyone knows... it is HOT! we hit 109 on sunday (lucky we were in church HA!) so after 15 months i had to get a new tube for my bike ;( and when it blew (and it BLEW) it also bent the rim but don't worry because of a handy tool kit that i was given back in the land of eternal p-days that i carry on my bike i was able to true the wheel back to ship-shape and i put my new tube on and i filled it with good ol' snot so lets pray that this one will last as long as the last one.

The other side of the story of course is that it happened on exchanges so i get a call from Elder Moore telling me that my bike blew up... yeah well thats how it goes right, it was interesting because his bike is what we would call the class A piece of junk so i was very tempted to see what would happen to the terror if it were to be dropped off the overpass into oncoming traffic... hmmm it might just have done the world a favor.

other then that this week has gone by in a blur not much is going on here and we are going to have to work a lot on building ward member/missionary relationships which i have found it is sure a lot harder to REbuild trust then it is to gain it in the first place and with the members being here the way they are most of the work i'll be doing is going to be more on the REbuilding that trust, its been quite the experiance to piece together the story and the history of missionaries here.

so this coming week i know will get better then this week however it will be hotter sadly but we carry on carry on carry on! i am coming to love the term "come what may and love it" and its so true! things may be hard and it might be bleak but i am serving my God! and what Joy that brings to me the peace and happiness that i have for serving those arround me even if they don't want to be helped thats ok i love what i'm doing and i look forward to see what changes God will make and how he will further his work here in Arrowhead ranch.

so i gave my first blessing at a hospital which was cool the arrowhead hospital is in our area and they have our number for LDS ecclesiastic clergymen or however all we know is that if LDS people are there and they want a blessing they call us which i love and find such a neat experiance.

ok so this is Elder Longhurst and Sister Eccols (who punches us in the gut if we call her that and not Grandma haha) and myself and elder longhurst is yet again leaning on me. oh and these are right before our hairs getting cut so i got another nice beautiful buzz which i love so much any whom i love you all so much keep up the fight!

from Glendale

ok sorry we were not able to email yesterday it was a holiday so the library was closed so sorry about that but here we are today!

Thank you so much for all of the pictures that you've sent! i loved those so much!

and Kyle! congrats! thats so cool that you get to do the pictures and video for erics wedding! i didn't know he was getting married but still that super cool! way to go! oh also kyle i have your birthday present but i haven't been able to send it yet the last few p-days i've been super busy packing and then yesterday i found on my gps that the closest post was super far to get too so today considering we're already miles out of our area to email i'm going to stop by and pick up a box so that i can actually get this thing up to you! i think your going to like the things i got for you and i'm so super sorry that it won't be there for your birthday but it is on it way so look forward to that!

Nathan i'm so excited to see you dance some time! that'll be so neat!

and mindy-moo! your being paid to play you chilly-cello now?!?1 that fantastic!

oh and also i'm sending home my camera so you can take it back to costco because i need to take pictures!!!!! and knowing mum you'll be able to get a nicer one that wont brake and will take really cool pictures.

So we met with the bishop and ward mission leader and we sat down and put together the vision goals and tasks that the ward is doing for missionary work and it was really cool because in both cases when we met the bishop and ward mission leader they started off very defensive almost hostile (which i found odd) but after getting to know them and to figure out what the plan is they realized that we weren't meeting to reprimand them but to see how we can help them with their own goals and with the work in this area, and with both we went out of those meetings feeling a lot better about each other then we did going in i find it so amazing how God works to make his plan happen so well that for some reason he needed me here to do His work.

speaking of... the Assistants Elder Campbell and Bartolson are in this zone so on p-day we got to hang out with them which was super cool it was so nice to see my trainer and to talk with him AND!!!! ELDER JACKSON is in this zone!!!!!!!!!!! that was so much fun getting to see him again and to have fun with him.

so on our ride home to our place Elder Campbell gave us a ride he told me that president wasn't going to transfer me this transfer but that in the middle of the night he got up and moved my name because the spirit directed him to do so, which i found to be a testimony builder that this is Gods work directed by the spirit and that i have a lot to learn here.

So elder Longhurst is super cool he just turned 19 and he has been out almost 3 months he is from Layton Utah (which he claims is totally different then the bubble of slc) but he is fun and willing to learn he also played risk and chess with me yesterday so yes i like him a lot. well that is all i have to report as of today but

i love you all so much keep up the good work and don't stop PRAYING!
love
Elder Pehrson

OH ps monday mornig wetook a hike and this hike is special due to its view of CCV! just kidding no of the Phoenix Temple! which is in our Zone too bad i don't have my camera but all is well we go every p-day

New area!... GLENDALE!

ok well sorry I wasn't able to email yesterday, the only place for us to email is almost 4 miles out of our area and we are on bike so its kinda hard to get around with everything being so far away from us but that's ok all is fine. so my companion is Elder logan Longhurst and he is my first companion from Utah! he is from Layton so close enough to us.

for all you google maps users (mr J) you'll find that the area where I was trained is about a block away! but in a different city and stake. I am in the Glendale/deervalley zone and nobody knows each other in this zone because almost everyone has bikes so no one gets together on p-day so kinda lame there but other then that its quite good I am in a super small area again and the place is super rich and Is built around a golf course. the area hasn't had a baptism in 5 years... lets change that shall we?

oh and ps for those of you over seas you can write to me here and it will get to me very fast

I love you all!

Transferred.

i am getting transfered! I'm so sad because i love these people so much and they mean so much to me! and i've worked so hard the last six months to leave this area better then i found it and oh my goodness i have to leave now!?!?! we have like 15 people we are teaching and 6 of them have a baptism date and the rest almost do and we just had a new investigater last night even! but all the same when i got the text that i was leaving i had this rush of the spirit and i knew that it was ok, that i served honorably here and it has been primed to explode with work, that where ever i go i will be needed there and that whoever my companion is i will love then and serve them as best as i can

it's going to be in the 80s this week due to a "storm"

ok so to start off our district reached standards of excelence! and the cool thing about that is that SOE is set on usually 4 companionships in a district so 8 missionaries but we only have 2 comps so it was super cool and come to find out all the work only came from two wards Surprise 2nd from ours and White Tank from Elders Wade and Loper so good things are happening

i have my first letter ready to go to be sent over seas which is exciting and i have no idea how long it'll take to get there but oh well. (Since Alex is in Lithuania for the summer)

ok so some items of business. Sunday is Mothers day and i will be calling home between 430 and 630 (AZ time) i'll probably let Elder Meredith go first from 430 to 510 and then i'll call after that but a word of caution! we are not allowed under any circumstances to go over the allotted 40 minutes. so i'm sorry but if my times up i will be hanging up on you so don't be offended.

Ok now i wanted to let you all know how much i love being a missionary!

this is the best work in the world i love it so much and it makes me so happy to be doing exactly what God wants me to do. I feel so blessed to be able to witness as peoples lives change and they become better and have that joy com into their lives!

so fun story and just to tell you Elder Pehrson is not in any way a robot missionary so just keep that in mind, we went to this part member family and we knocked on the door and they let us in and started talking with us her husband and 4 children are not members but only two kids are baptism age, so as usual per Elder Pehrson being who he is, instead of talking with the adults i go to the 12, 9, and 7 year olds and start talking to them and it turns out that they LOVE dinosaurs like a lot! so they start bringing their toys out onto the kitchen table and instead of us looking at them and saying wow thats so neat i proceed to grab hold of the meanest looking one and start to eat the other ones which ended up in all the kids and Elder Meredith and i reenacting how the dinosaurs are actually dead because they all died in a massive battle.

oh man those are the good times i loved it so much.

so we went back for our lesson and i've never met anyone so excited to see us!  the 9 year old was waiting in the window the whole time looking for us to come and they had the living room all cleaned up and ready to go with a plate of freshly made cookies (which were great! and we used them as an object lesson on the apostasy) and we had lesson 1 which went so well and the whole family is now learning including the husband and i'm so excited to see how they progress and the joy that come into their lives as they grow closer to God.

Well i had better go now but i love you all so much! and i'm excited to hear from you on Sunday but until then i love you

It was 101 yesterday!

Ok so to start off this morning a returning less-active in our ward took us to a driving range and we learned how to GOLF! and guess what! ITS FUN! i loved it and i'm not too shabby at it either, with the driver i was hitting the back fence but i wasn't as good with the irons but it was still super fun.

so this week has been good we've been busy but not the good busy its the have so many things to do that we're figuring out ways to get it all done and end up not giving anything the full attention that it needed but thats ok because we've had a lot to do and we're getting through it all and this coming week looks like its going to be just as full if not more full but that good i like it that was.

so yes its ben hot down here in the upper 90s and it was 101 on sunday and being on a bike thats HOT! but its all actualy quite fun, i truely do love being here doing this work.

so yesterday was amazing (we didn't have anyone at sacrament and they all said that they would be there)) i love it so much that we can develop these relationships with the ward members and we can love them and during church and walking through the halls to have all the little kids loving to come up and shake our hands or to talk to us and the youth to ask us if we are going to thier class or the parents asking when we can come by for dinner or a message with thier families, we couldn't have asked for a better area i love it here so much and i love the friends that i have here and the work that we are able to do with them and thier neighbors is so much fun.

so michael came to Elders wade and lopers baptism on sat and he loved it and then he had his interview which he passed with flying colors but then on sunday he texted us saying that his mom wants him to wait and learn more about the church before getting baptised so we have to wait sadly but it gives us time to throughly go over all the lessons with him so that is a good thing.

we are all waiting for the mission spawns and spits and how the logistics of everything are going to work out but all we can do is wait which i don't mind however it happens is how god wants it to be.

So Where Is kim going? isn't it the Tempe mission? well anyhow right now i guess Alex is on the plane heading out to her worldwide adventures and thats so exciting for her! that'll be amazing.
Well i had better go now but i love you all so much, keep up the good work and keep on keepin on!

The Best of Times and the Worst of Times

ok so this week has been great and horrible!

great because we found a new family! who are excited to learn more and to join the church and i could go off about the chain of miracles that have happened and how happy i am about the work God has given us this week!

So i want to take a second and let you all know that it is hot down here and its only going to get hotter! but thats ok we do our best and God knows the plan so i'm happy.

this week was horrible because yet again here i am emailing you on MONDAY! its been a whole week! i don't like how fast time has been flying by it seems as though the only thing i have to mark my time is sitting here emailing you and then 2 seconds later here i am again!

but i am here to report that every second that goes by and i am doing the best and most wonderful work in the world that i am loving it so much! i love being here i love teaching i love serving and i love seeing the change the God works in the hearts of these amazing people that he has blessed me with the opportunity of being the one through whom the spirit is able to testify of these eternal truths. oh boy this is the life!

well i love you all so much keep up being the amazing rampaging-tiger-monkeys that you are i love you!

Big Buddha

Note from Z: Emailing with Elder Pehrson is always an interesting experience. Each segment of his story is sent in a different email. So on a given Monday I get anywhere from one to seven emails. I usually just consolidate into one post for you all (complete with some slight editing on my part). Today I thought I'd just give you the gloriousness the way I receive it.
You're welcome.

Email #1:

i hope this is the right video...

Z IN RESPONSE:

Hi! How are things going? Are you still in the car? How's your relationship with your companion? What new things have you learned from the scriptures? What was your favorite conference talk and why? Cool video - just showing us your desk?

Email #2:

well hello beautiful! things are great!

yes, don't know how much longer i have a follow up with the dr next monday.

We're doing well l i think he is a great missionary and we are working a lot with him being a part of lessons but he doesn't have smooth transitions down yet he will 1 interrupt and talk over or he will not transition smoothly and have a long awkward pause but that's ok we're working together on all of this so we are happy.

well i just finished it again last week and i can again testify that moronis promise is true the book is true and God does tell us and he is there.

Elder Bednars haha mostly because this is the first time watching conference where i wasn't thinking what i could learn but what the people we're teaching need to hear and this talk we have already used with melony and deven and it has testified to them and helped them both a lot.

ok now what did you think of the video and my explanations of the pictures?

Z IN RESPONSE:

Well, yeah, it was a cool video, but it was pretty short. Did you just want to show us your desk? I haven't gotten your pictures yet.

Email #3

FAMILY! and FRIENDS! and perhaps PEOPLE I DON'T KNOW! hello!

so this week was great we finally got in with melony and then the member we were with invited her to dinner and she actually went! AND she came to church!!!!!!! and she is excited to learn more and to work towards baptism! woot! we have been trying to help her progress since last aug! so that was exciting!

so it snowed there? that's funny its been in the upper 80s lower 90s down here but i tell you what when the sun goes down and the cool breezes come in and its too dark to recognize the boring dull colors of everything it is paradise down here! this is a place that mom would love, warm.

ok so i wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! for sending that stuff down i didn't tell you this last week and it has been bugging me all week THANK YOU! i love it all and it means so much to me that you did that for me thank you!

ok so in that video that i sent it shows a new backpack [note from z: I still don't think he's sent the right video] so that was CRAZY! this less active family that we've been working with a lot lately got that for me because they wanted to thank me for helping them out and i was blown away that they would do that for me! they work for the airforce so they got it at luke airforces comencary and its SUPER nice! its the most comfortable backpack i've ever worn and its funny because its actually quite large but it has straps to make it smaller because i don't need it to be so big but its the camo canvas that is indestructible and pretty much the coolest thing in the world!

ok so now the Buddha .. it was two dollars at a yard sale and i had to get it! it is now Rudigard, holder of the globe of infinite wisdom. So of those who know me this thing is the bees knees, i love it so much and it makes my desk quite the attraction at our house if you can imagine.
so other then that no real news to report we are working hard and loving to work its not too hot yet and so that makes things nice indeed. I love you all thank you so much for the love and support that you give and keep being fly!

Love Elder Pehrson

P.S note to the best mum in the world; how many weeks until mothers day? :D

Email #4

Ooooh, okay, I'll resend it.

[sends exact same video]

Email #5
